STORY 2: New outreach program aims to get word out to vets about free mental health resources

Veterans in Cherokee and Pickens counties have launched a program to support veterans in crisis during National Veteran Mental Health Awareness and Suicide Prevention Month. "Don't Struggle Alone" cards and posters have been distributed at various locations, connecting veterans to mental health resources through the Cherokee County Homeless Veterans website. These resources include local veteran service organizations, mental health providers, and VA services at no cost. Funding for this initiative came from the previous year's Red White and Blue BBQ event, with this year's proceeds also supporting the program's expansion. Federal grants and the COMPACT Act further enhance veteran mental health support in the region. Interested parties can obtain posters and QR codes for their businesses or organizations.
