STORY 2: Newton County Schools Superintendent Duke Bradley to Host Community Listening Sessions
Newton County School System Superintendent Duke Bradley III is initiating Community Listening Sessions as part of his 90-day entry plan. The first session is scheduled for December 14 at Clements Middle School in Covington, with another session planned for January 18, 2024, at Eastside High School. The goal is to facilitate open and meaningful dialogue between Superintendent Bradley and the community, allowing parents, community members, and stakeholders to express their thoughts, interests, and aspirations for the school system. STORY 3: Madison to take over recycling service, adds glass recycling collection
Starting January 1, 2024, the City of Madison will take over recycling services, including glass recycling, by terminating its contract with Latham Home Sanitation Services. The city aims to make the transition seamless but will implement changes, such as shifting recycling pickup to Tuesdays on holiday weeks. Stricter rules will be applied, refusing non-recyclable materials, especially if in plastic bags. Residents can use green recycling totes or purchase blue 35 or 95-gallon wheeled carts. Glass recycling will be introduced on alternating Wednesdays starting January 10, 2024, with a free 35-gallon rolling cart provided to participants. The collected glass will be processed by Strategic Materials in College Park.
