From the Ingles Studio this is your news minute on the Cherokee Tribune Ledger Podcast presented by Powers Electrical Solutions. Today is Wednesday, September 20th and I'm Keith Ippolito.
The Ball Ground City Council has approved a 5% hotel/motel tax, effective from January 1. This tax will apply to short-term rentals such as Airbnb or VRBO since the city does not have any hotels or motels. The revenue generated will be used for infrastructure improvements, city events, promoting tourism, and enhancing the downtown district. Despite not having traditional hotels, the city expects to generate between $8,000 to $12,000 annually through this tax, especially with upcoming short-term rental units. Nearby cities in Cherokee County also have hotel/motel taxes, and Ball Ground aims to benefit similarly from tourism-related income.
