Canton Announces Interim Police Chief
The city of Canton has named Captain John Lummus as the interim police chief. He will fill this role during the transition following the retirement of current Police Chief Stephen Merrifield. Lummus, who joined the Canton Police Department in 1997, currently heads the Uniform Patrol Division and is highly recommended by his peers. His stint as interim chief will begin on December 20, leading into Merrifield’s official retirement date of January 2nd. Meanwhile, the city has engaged Reddish Executive Consulting to manage the search for the next police chief, with the application process opening on December 18.
