Canton City Council discusses potential changes to growth boundary agreement
From the Ingles Studio this is your news minute on the Cherokee Tribune Ledger Podcast presented by Powers Electrical Solutions. Today is Monday, September 11th and I'm Keith Ippolito.
Canton and Cherokee County leaders are in discussions about potential revisions to their growth boundary agreement. The agreement was approved by the Canton City Council in August but has not yet been approved by the county. The city and county officials have exchanged concerns, with the county proposing low-density development in an area referred to as "Canton West." The revised agreement also outlines terms for the city to have the right of first refusal for land adjacent to Boling Park along the Etowah River. Additionally, the proposal includes an expiration date for the agreement in 2054. Discussions also touched on the feasibility of hotel development in Canton, with studies showing potential support for such projects in both the Lake Canton Resort area and the downtown historic district. The next steps include marketing the sites and preparing formal proposals for development.
