From the Ingles Studio this is your news minute on the Cherokee Tribune Ledger podcast, presented by Dayco Systems. Today is Wednesday My 31st, and I'm Brian Giffin.
The city of Canton is considering a Down Payment Assistance Program that would provide financial aid to eligible homebuyers in the form of forgivable deferred payment loans. Under the proposed program, qualified buyers, including first-time homebuyers, could receive a minimum of $500 and up to $10,000 based on their income and specific circumstances. The applicant's total annual income should not exceed 80% of the median income in the Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Roswell Metropolitan Statistical Area. Certain qualified applicants, such as first responders, educators, healthcare workers, households with a disabled family member, and City of Canton employees, may be eligible for higher loan amounts. The loan would be forgiven after the homeowner has lived in the home for five years, with the amount owed decreasing by 20% each year. The program applies to single-family residential properties within Canton city limits that meet relevant housing and building codes.
