Chas McKinley Bryan, a man from Canton, has been found guilty of five counts of sexual exploitation of children after a bench trial. The case began in March 2019 when law enforcement discovered child pornography being downloaded to Bryan's Cherokee County residence. In May 2019, a search warrant was executed, leading to the seizure of digital devices containing explicit images of children being sexually abused. During the trial, prosecutors presented evidence of the images and videos found in Bryan's possession, which depicted children as young as toddlers. Superior Court Judge David Cannon Jr. found Bryan guilty on five of the six counts. Sentencing will occur at a later date. The Cherokee Sheriff's Office investigated the case, and the Blue Ridge Judicial Circuit prosecuted it.
