From the Ingles Studios this is your news minute on the Cherokee Tribune Ledger Podcast, presented by Engineered Solutions of Georgia. Today is Wednesday June 14th, and I'm Brian Giffin.
Canton city leaders are considering maintaining the property tax rate for the upcoming year, and residents are encouraged to provide input. The proposed millage rate for the 2024 fiscal year in Canton, set at 5.4 mills, is the same as the current rate since 2017. The rollback rate, which would generate the same revenue as the previous year, is 4.8 mills. The city's tax rate includes payments to Cherokee County for fire services, which accounts for about 3.2 mills. Under the proposed rate, the city anticipates a 23.53% increase in tax revenue, amounting to nearly $2.1 million. Public hearings will be held on June 15, July 6, and July 20, with the council vote scheduled for July 20. The millage rate is separate from the Cherokee County government and school district tax rates.
