STORY 1: Madison woman credits Morgan County Sheriff's Office car seat program with saving son's life during wreck

Gabrielle Busenitz credits Stephanie Whitley, an administrative assistant at the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office, for saving her son’s life through proper child safety seat training. Busenitz’s car slid into a ditch, hit a power pole, and flipped, but thanks to the correctly secured child seat, her 17-month-old son Ayden emerged unharmed. Busenitz, who ran into Whitley at the Madison Flea Market, shared an emotional moment and thanked Whitley for the lifesaving knowledge. The Sheriff’s Office, awarded a grant from the Georgia Department of Public Health, plans to educate parents, provide car seats, and offer inspections for eligible families.

STORY 2: Data Center Campus Planned for Rockdale County

DC BLOX plans to develop a data center project on 72 acres off Farmer Road in Rockdale County, Georgia, with an investment potential of $800 million to $1 billion. The project involves three data centers, with the capacity to accommodate 750,000 square feet of space and 216 megawatts of total power provided by Georgia Power. Tax abatement incentives, including 10-year abatements on land and buildings, are part of the Development Authority of Rockdale County's incentives for the project. DC BLOX aims to create an "ecosystem for new tech investment" in the city and county and is known for vertically integrated infrastructure solutions, including data centers and dark fiber networks.

STORY 3: Paws & Purrs Gala raises more than $25,000 for Morgan County Humane Society

The "Denim and Diamonds" Paws & Purrs Winter Gala, benefiting the Humane Society of Morgan County (HSMC), raised over $25,000. Hosted at The Sixty-Two in Madison and sponsored by The Ritz-Carlton Reynolds, Lake Oconee, the event celebrated HSMC's 30th anniversary of rescuing and caring for homeless animals. The non-profit, no-kill shelter relies on donations and volunteers to help hundreds of unhoused dogs and cats, providing medical treatment and finding safe forever homes. The funds raised will support rescuing, vaccinating, treating, spaying/neutering, feeding, and caring for animals at the shelter.
