Today is Friday July 28th, and I'm Brian GiffinThe Charlie Ferguson Community Center has opened in Cherokee County, honoring the legacy of Charlie Ferguson, a longtime local leader. The center, located on the site of the old North Canton Volunteer Fire Department, will serve as a community gathering space. Charlie Ferguson was instrumental in establishing the North Canton Volunteer Fire Department and the first African American volunteer fire department in Georgia. The center, funded through a grant and local tax dollars, underwent renovations to create meeting rooms, a kitchen, and other facilities. The nonprofit Charlie Ferguson Community Center, Inc. will operate the facility with support from the county for the first year, after which it will take full ownership. Future programming will be provided through partnerships with various community organizations.
