Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services' Fire Station 7 has been dedicated to retired Fire Chief and county Commissioner Raymond Gunnin, honoring his more than 40 years of public service. A ceremony took place at the station, attended by county and fire department officials, family, and friends. Gunnin's contributions to the fire department were recognized, with Chairman Harry Johnston stating that the department would have lost significant progress without him. The dedication was initially made in 2020 through a resolution and proclamation, and a plaque was unveiled during the ceremony. Gunnin joined the county as a volunteer firefighter in 1977, rose through the ranks, and served as fire chief until his retirement in 2011. He later became a county commissioner. Fire Chief Eddie Robinson acknowledged Gunnin's mentorship and influence on his own career. Gunnin attributed the department's success to the collective effort and dedication of the firefighters.
