Sgt. Bryan Thomas, a veteran firefighter with Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services, retired after 29 years of service. He started as a volunteer firefighter with the Hickory Flat Volunteer Fire Department in Cherokee County and later became a career firefighter, paramedic, and fire sergeant. In his final years, he served as the logistics manager. Thomas was honored at a retirement luncheon where he received a speaking trumpet as a symbol of leadership and tradition in the fire service. On his last day, he was given a ride home in CCFES Engine 3, serving the area where he began his career. The department wishes him a happy retirement.
