STORY 2: tax
The Cherokee County Board of Commissioners has agreed to slightly reduce property tax rates in response to a spike in home values, resulting in higher assessment increases for homeowners. The new rates for the county's maintenance and operations portion are set at 4.954 mills, down from the originally advertised rate of 4.985 mills. The county's fire millage rate is set at 2.764 mills, and the parks bond rate is set at 0.319 mills. The reduction aims to provide relief to homeowners and increase local participation in baseball and softball play. Cherokee County will also explore options to modify the senior exemption for school taxes.

Austin's condition affects his adrenal glands and brain, and he requires regular monitoring and treatment. Despite the challenges of chemotherapy, Austin remains strong and positive. Firefighters connected with him during his visit to the station, and he was named an honorary firefighter. Austin's family hopes for prayers and support during his ongoing fight against cancer.
