From the Ingles Studio this is your news minute on the Cherokee Tribune Ledger Podcast presented by Powers Electrical Solutions. Today is Wednesday August 16th, and I'm Brian Giffin.
The Cherokee Sheriff’s Office is warning the public about a recurring scam involving fraudulent calls, texts, and emails from individuals claiming to be from the office and demanding money for warrants or missed jury duty. These scammers often use the names of real deputies and employ various tactics to sound convincing. They may request payment through methods like gift cards, bitcoin, or direct bank deposits. To combat this, the sheriff's office advises recipients of such calls to hang up, call 911, and report the incident immediately. Citizens are also urged to share this information with friends and family to prevent falling victim to the scam.
