The Cobb County Board of Education witnessed partisan divisions as Democrats failed to end the school district's participation in a lawsuit over alleged racially gerrymandered electoral maps. Despite public criticism, motions by Democrats Becky Sayler, Leroy Tre’ Hutchins, and Nichelle Davis were rejected by the board's Republicans. Sayler's attempt to disassociate from the law firm Freeman, Mathis & Gary, involved in the lawsuit, also failed. Hutchins' motion to condemn a statement from the firm, deemed political propaganda, also faced party-line opposition. The controversy underscores ongoing tensions within the board regarding redistricting and legal involvement.
