STORY 1: roach

Petty Officer 3rd Class Demonta Roach, a native of Conyers, serves in the U.S. Navy as an aviation structural mechanic assigned to Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 122 based in Lemoore, California. Roach joined the Navy two years ago with the goal of being a positive influence on peers and younger family members. Having learned humility, attentiveness, and avoiding complacency while growing up in Conyers, Roach applies these values in military service. VFA 122 operates the F/A 18 Super Hornet, a highly advanced aircraft used for air-to-air combat and land strikes. Celebrating 50 years of women flying in the U.S. Navy, women aviators have made significant contributions to the Navy's global leadership and service in various aircraft.

STORY 2:  killing

Jova’a Marie Jackson, a former corporal with the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office, has been arrested and charged with malice murder in Clayton County. Jackson allegedly shot and killed her boyfriend, Terell Douglas, during an argument. Witnesses reported that Jackson produced a handgun and shot Douglas at an apartment complex in Jonesboro. Jackson fled the scene but later surrendered to police and turned over the murder weapon. Prior to the incident, Jackson had resigned from the RCSO while under investigation for employee misconduct related to her relationship with Douglas. An internal investigation found policy violations, and termination was recommended. Jackson had previously been reprimanded in 2019 for her relationship with Douglas….follow this story at rockdalenewtoncitizen.com

Story 3 : budget

The Morgan County Board of Education is preparing to adopt a $43.2 million budget for fiscal year 2024. The budget is balanced and includes $21.6 million in projected state funding and $20 million from local property taxes. The superintendent, Dr. Virgil Cole, presented the budget, which includes a suggested millage rate of 13.47, the lowest in the history of Morgan County. Despite the lower rate, property values are increasing, leading to higher tax revenue. The system spends an average of $10,500 per student, with around 3,500 students and 285 certified employees in the system. The budget also has a $14.5 million fund balance. Public hearings on the budget will be held on June 26 and July 17……We’ll be right back
