“From the Henssler Financial Studio this is your news minute on the Gwinnett Daily Post Podcast presented by Engineered Solutions of Georgia. Today is Thursday September 14th, and I’m Keith Ippolito
COVID-19 hospitalizations and deaths in Georgia have been rising, with approximately 17,000 hospitalizations in the past week, marking a 16% increase over the previous week. COVID-19-related deaths have also risen by 11% to around 700. However, these numbers remain significantly lower than the peaks seen during the pandemic. The dominant strain in Georgia is currently the EG.5 variant, followed by other strains stemming from the omicron variant. Notably, the BA.2.86 variant, which has garnered attention, has not yet appeared in the state.
A new COVID vaccine approved by the FDA is expected to be available soon and is designed to protect against the current virus strains. Despite progress, vigilance is urged, especially among immunocompromised individuals, as COVID is expected to persist for years. Additionally, RSV season is expected to return to a more typical pattern, with new tools available to combat it. Early onset of the flu season is also noted, with recommendations for flu vaccination for individuals over six months old. Utilizing available preventive measures is crucial in managing these respiratory viruses.
