STORY 1: charge

Covington City Councilman Anthony Henderson is facing a second-degree criminal damage to property charge related to an incident at The Battery in April. Allegedly, Henderson damaged an entry gate arm, drove through the gate, and allowed two other cars to follow him into a parking deck. Henderson has been cooperating and expressed confidence in his legal team's ability to bring out the truth. An assistant manager of the parking facility reported the incident to the police. The officer identified Henderson through the vehicle's registration. Henderson has referred further inquiries to his attorney.....……. STORY 2:  soccer

Conyers is introducing a new zoning ordinance, the Recreation and Entertainment District zoning, designed for a 286-acre tract of land adjacent to the Georgia International Horse Park. This tract is slated for a soccer/entertainment complex project led by developer Patrick Vierhout. The ordinance aims to create a sustainable, centralized facility with recreational and entertainment uses, while minimizing negative impacts on residential areas and utilizing existing infrastructure. The zoning permits various uses including sports stadiums, indoor/outdoor recreation facilities, hotels, schools, restaurants, and more. The project includes a 10,000-seat soccer stadium, tennis and track facilities, hotels, retail shops, and sports apparel manufacturing.

Story 3 : public

The Rockdale County Board of Commissioners (BOC) is set to appoint members to the Public Facility Authority (PFA) board, responsible for issuing bonds for government projects such as the county courthouse complex. The BOC aims to appoint five members to the PFA, enabling the issuance of tax-exempt bonds for projects at potentially lower interest rates and fees. The appointments are subject to amendments in the legislation, which extended the board to five members and established criteria such as residency, age, and felony convictions. Initial appointments will have varying terms of one to three years, and members will need to hold public hearings before authorizing revenue bonds........……….……

Story 4:  attack

An 81-year-old woman from Buckhead City is in intensive care at Grady Memorial Hospital after being severely mauled by two mixed breed Pit Bull dogs in the Apalachee Woods area. The woman sustained serious injuries to her left arm and back during the attack. The dogs' owners, Martin and Julie Mayzurk, have received previous warnings and citations related to their dogs. The dogs are currently in a mandatory 10-day holding period to check for rabies. Pending charges against the Mayzurks are being investigated, and county policies related to vicious animal designation could entail strict regulations for dog owners or euthanizing the dogs if released to the county.

Story 5: gas

Madison residents might face an increase in their natural gas bills due to a proposed rate hike. The city is considering raising the monthly natural gas service flat rate from $9 to $12 and increasing the fixed distribution fee from $4.50 to $4.90. This could result in a $56 annual increase for each customer. With over 2,000 customers, the city anticipates an extra $200,000 yearly for its struggling natural gas department, which is grappling with staff shortages and deteriorating infrastructure. Madison's aging infrastructure, including century-old water lines, has led to increased workload and pervasive water leaks. The council will review and vote on the proposal in the coming months.

STORY 6: rec

A Morgan County's recreation department is considering building a $215,000 digital sign that could generate approximately $75,000 annually through advertisements and sponsorships. The 11-by-22-foot sign, proposed at no cost to the county, would be situated near College Drive and East Avenue in Madison. While promoting county events and recreational programs, the sign could also display advertisements and emergency alerts. Civic Media Group, the company behind the proposal, would cover the construction costs and share the ad revenue with the county. The Board of Commissioners will vote on the installation in their next meeting.
