Story 1: Floyd County Man Accused of Stealing Items from Deceased Man's Home
Toby Lance Eden, a 31-year-old resident of Floyd County, has been charged with felony theft by taking, misdemeanor theft by taking, and theft by deception. It is alleged that Eden removed a saltwater pool system and a pool table from a home on Old Summerville Road following the owner's death in January.
The saltwater system, valued at $2,000, was reportedly sold online by Eden for $700. Additionally, he allegedly sold the pool table, worth an estimated $700, for just $220. Eden is currently being held without bond at Floyd County Jail.
Story 2: Federal Drug Conspiracy Charges Unsealed For Cohutta Man
Fletcher J. Burkett III, a resident of Cohutta, is facing federal drug conspiracy charges from the Northern District of Florida. The charges, which were unsealed recently, relate to an alleged involvement in a conspiracy to distribute over 500 grams of cocaine in February 2021, alongside Christian Jose Landeros Mendez. Mendez and four other individuals are also facing similar charges for purportedly conspiring to sell cocaine and heroin. Burkett was released on a $10,000 unsecured bond.
In a separate incident, Burkett was arrested in January following an event at a youth basketball game in Calhoun. It is reported that after a confrontation, Burkett brandished a revolver and made threats. As a result, he is now facing felony charges, which include aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
Story 3: 20-Year-Old No Longer Charged in Crash That Injured Bicyclist
The Cherokee Sheriff's Office has dismissed the felony hit-and-run charge previously brought against William James Abbott. This decision comes in light of new evidence suggesting a different vehicle was responsible for striking a 78-year-old bicyclist, who suffered serious injuries on March 3rd.
Abbott was initially arrested due to eyewitness accounts and the state of his vehicle. However, subsequent investigations pointed towards the involvement of another vehicle in the incident. While Abbott no longer faces charges related to the bicyclist's injury, he has been charged with reckless driving and using a wireless device while operating a vehicle.
After posting bail, Abbott was released from custody. The authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident to ensure justice is served.

Story 4: Fulton judge dismisses six counts in Trump election interference case
Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee has removed six counts from an extensive 41-count indictment against former President Donald Trump, as well as other individuals. The judge cited legal insufficiencies as the reason for the dismissal. These dismissed counts were connected to Trump's notorious phone call to Georgia's Secretary of State, during which he requested the official to "find" additional votes.
The dismissed charges were deemed to lack sufficient detail regarding the alleged crimes, thereby inhibiting the defendants' capacity to mount a defense. Notwithstanding these dismissals, Trump continues to face 88 indictments across multiple jurisdictions.
Story 5: Rivian plans site maintenance during construction pause
Rivian Automotive's announcement to pause the development of its plant at Stanton Springs North has left residents questioning what lies ahead for the site. Even though the state is the landowner, Rivian is responsible for its upkeep during the development hiatus, which includes providing security and other services.
RJ Scaringe, CEO of Rivian, reassured that the company remains committed to fulfilling these responsibilities and eventually bringing the plant into operation. Nonetheless, concerns have emerged regarding potential environmental impacts, such as soil disruption and well contamination.
In response, Rivian's Environmental, Health and Safety team is formulating a plan to manage the site, ensuring they adhere to permit requirements and address security issues. The team also plans to make continuous enhancements to the site in collaboration with local authorities.

Story 6: Scientists unveil new stretchy skin-like electronics for health monitoring
Researchers at Stanford University have made significant advancements in the realm of health monitoring and disease diagnosis with the creation of new, flexible electronics that mimic the properties of skin. This innovative technology is smaller and more efficient than its predecessors, making it a viable option for wearable or implantable devices.
These integrated circuits are fabricated from semiconducting carbon nanotubes and flexible materials, which ensures their functionality even when subjected to stretching or distortion. These circuits possess the capability to power micro-LED screens and detect tactile sensations with a high degree of sensitivity, such as interpreting Braille.
The potential applications of this technology extend beyond health monitoring, with possible uses in brain-machine interfaces and soft robotics. Despite there being some obstacles to overcome, the researchers are hopeful about the prospects for commercializing this technology for biomedical uses and other applications in the not-too-distant future.
Story 7: $1 Million Secured for Historic Oostanaula Schoolhouse Renovation
U.S. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene has confirmed the allocation of millions in federal funds for numerous initiatives in Georgia's 14th District. A significant portion of these funds, amounting to $1 million, will be used for the renovation of the Oostanaula (oʊˈstænələ) School Community Center, which is a historic landmark in Gordon County.
Other projects that will benefit from this funding include an extension of the runway at Floyd County's regional airport, the installation of a Water Intake Screen in Dade County, an expansion of Whitfield County's sewer system, and the extension of the Austell-Powder Springs Trail in Cobb County. Additionally, funds will be used for the replacement of Cobb County's water main and the purchase of equipment for the Paulding County Fire Department.
