After a nearly three-year investigation, state officials have closed the case on allegations that Gwinnett County Sheriff Keybo Taylor attempted to extort campaign support from bail bonding companies. The investigation was initiated by the GBI in September 2020 after a video was sent to the GBI showing Taylor meeting with an employee of a bail bonding company. Taylor was accused of implying that he would revoke the company's ability to provide bail bonding services in Gwinnett if they did not support his campaign. However, the Attorney General's Office found the 30-second video insufficient to understand the context of Taylor's remarks and could not find evidence of similar statements to other companies. The case has been closed without prosecution, and the Sheriff's Office asserts that the investigation exonerates Taylor.
