STORY 1:   Georgia Supreme Court Dismisses Catoosa GOP Appeal

The Georgia high court declined to hear the Catoosa County Republican Party's appeal to block four candidates they deemed unrepresentative of party values from the ballot. The court dismissed the appeal primarily because it was initially filed in the wrong court and not expedited when transferred to the high court, despite being six weeks from the election. The candidates, including Catoosa County Commission Chair Larry Black and others, were allowed to run as Republicans after a lower court ruling. The GOP's federal complaint about First Amendment rights was also rejected. The decision leaves unanswered whether parties can legally exclude candidates based on adherence to party platforms, a matter flagged by Justice Charlie Bethel for future consideration.

STORY 2: Ga. Historic Preservation Trust Seeks Matching Grant Applicants

The Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation is seeking applicants for two project grants aimed at supporting historic preservation in Georgia. The grants, each up to $10,000, are available through The 1772 Foundation Grants for Georgia and Callahan Incentive Grants programs. Applications are open to private, non-profit organizations, excluding those for school or church buildings. Letters of inquiry must be submitted by December 2 to Director of Preservation Ben Sutton via email. Selected applicants will be invited to submit full applications by February 17, 2025. Eligibility details are available on the Georgia Trust's website, and inquiries can be made via email or phone.

STORY 3:  GNTC Awards 1,200 NC3 Certificates

Georgia Northwestern Technical College (GNTC) has awarded around 1,200 NC3 certifications, enhancing student readiness for high-demand careers. As Georgia's first NC3 Leadership School, GNTC offers nationally recognized certifications, providing students with competitive advantages. The college employs three NC3 Master Instructors and 11 other certified faculty members, enhancing educational quality. GNTC's status facilitates industry connections through events like Train-the-Trainer, benefiting students with real-world skills. The college's partnership with NC3 and industry leaders exemplifies leveraging certifications to transform student opportunities and advance workforce development.

STORY 5:     Murphy-Harpst Celebrates 100 Years of Caring

Murphy-Harpst Children’s Center is celebrating its 100th anniversary, marking a century of providing critical services to foster children who often cannot be placed in traditional homes. The center plays a vital role amid Georgia's rise in foster care cases, offering clinical and therapeutic support. Recent achievements include reaching over 1,600 children in the past decade and aiding more than 200 youths across 50 counties. Their innovative programs, like the Evolve initiative—offering foster youths a supportive, therapeutic home environment—and equine therapy, are pivotal in helping children heal and develop essential life skills. Recognized by Governor Brian Kemp, the center continues to transform lives, rooted in the mission set by its founders, Ethel Harpst and Sarah Murphy.
