STORY 1: Man Charged With Impersonating Federal Agent During Gwinnett County Home Invasion

Luis Soto was arrested in Gwinnett County for allegedly impersonating a federal agent during a home invasion in Lawrenceville. Along with two unidentified individuals, Soto is accused of forcing entry into an apartment while dressed in tactical gear and claiming to be a federal agent on surveillance duty. The trio reportedly stole $3,000 worth of items, including sneakers and jewelry. Soto now faces multiple charges including home invasion, kidnapping, aggravated assault, false imprisonment, armed robbery, and impersonation of a public official. Investigations are ongoing to locate the other two suspects.

STORY 2: Seven-Year-Old Girl Overcomes Rare Condition Following Groundbreaking Global Debut Treatment

Seven-year-old Inaaya Shabbir, diagnosed with Wolman's Disease, a rare genetic condition affecting one in 350,000 babies, has become the first person worldwide to receive a revolutionary NHS treatment. Shabbir underwent enzyme replacement therapy at Birmingham Children's Hospital, utilizing Sebelipase alfa, an innovative drug now recommended for nationwide use within the NHS. Once expected to live only six months, Shabbir is thriving due to this treatment, previously sought through crowdfunding by her parents.The treatment has shown significant progress in combating Wolman's Disease, which leads to organ damage and early death if untreated, allowing affected children to have a normal life expectancy. This medical breakthrough spearheaded by Birmingham Children's Hospital brings hope to children globally affected by this condition.

STORY 3: Dacula High School Student Arrested for Bringing Gun on Campus

A student from Dacula High School was arrested following reports of him bringing a gun to school. The arrest was made after another student alerted the school administrators about the situation. The school resource officer conducted a search which revealed the weapon. While the student did not threaten anyone with the firearm, the incident has been taken seriously leading to criminal charges and strict school disciplinary actions. The school principal commended the students and parents who reported the incident, stressing the need for open communication between students and staff to maintain safety.

STORY 4: Stone Mountain Park Hosting Lunar New Year Festival

Stone Mountain Park is hosting its second annual Lunar New Year Festival to celebrate the cultural traditions of Korean, Chinese, Vietnamese, and other lunar calendar-based New Year festivities. The festival will include a Lunar New Year Drone and Light Show, a lighted parade, cultural craft activities, and live entertainment. Certified instructors from the Chinese Cultural School of Atlanta will showcase calligraphy, yo-yo demonstrations, knot tying, and more. Attendees can take pictures with ambassadors in cultural attire, and a lighted reflection walkway will offer well wishes for the new year. Each night concludes with a drone show, Lunar New Year Light Show, and fireworks finale.

STORY 5: Gwinnett's Gateway85 CID Continues Efforts to Support Growing Latino Community

The Gateway85 CID hosted a gathering at Corners Outreach, bringing together 38 community participants, including business leaders, non-profits, and government officials. The event aimed to address the needs of the expanding Latino community in Gwinnett County. Discussions focused on enhancing accessibility to vital services, education, and employment opportunities for Latinos. The CID aims to create a coalition of leaders and service providers to streamline support in health services, education, job training, and employment opportunities. The meeting emphasized the economic significance of the Latino labor force in Georgia and laid the groundwork for building momentum to improve the lives of Latino community members.

STORY 6: Norcross Nonprofit To Host Fundraiser Feb. 17

Atlanta-based DFOWW Inc., a nonprofit charity organization, is hosting a fundraising event featuring plant, aromatherapy candle, and herbal tea sales on Feb. 17 at the Norcross Cultural Arts and Community Center. Proceeds will support the organization's Write-Right Nutrition Program. The plant selection includes rare varieties, and prices range from $9 to $45. Aromatherapy candles are priced at $15 each or two for $25. Purchases are tax-deductible. The event includes a free catered lunch from Olive Garden for buyers. Harris has left an indelible impact on students who have excelled in various fields. His accolades include being named Teacher of the Year at Buford High School and Troup High School, earning STAR Teacher honors nine times, and receiving the Northeast Georgia Outstanding Educator twice.
