From the Henssler Financial Studio this is your news minute on the Gwinnett Daily Post Podcast presented by Engineered Solutions of Georgia, today is Monday July 31st, and I'm Brian Giffin.

Gwinnett County Public Schools Superintendent Calvin Watts is optimistic about addressing student discipline and safety issues in the upcoming 2023-2024 school year. With over 183,000 students expected to attend 142 schools, the district is taking significant steps to improve.

Challenges from last year related to discipline and a new policy rollout have prompted adjustments and better communication with principals to ensure effective implementation. Safety concerns, including gun violence, student attacks, and disruptions, have led to the implementation of a CrisisAlert badge system and an increased presence of school resource officers. Installing metal detectors is still under consideration. The district is committed to creating a safe and conducive learning environment for its school community in the upcoming school year.
