Here’s who qualified on the first day for Cherokee County city elections

Three cities in Cherokee County are preparing for municipal elections on November 7, and candidates have begun qualifying for various positions.

In Canton, Mayor Bill Grant is facing a challenger, Andy Tubbs, for the mayorship. Councilmember Travis Johnson has qualified for Ward 1, Shawn Tolan for Ward 2, and a special election for the vacant Ward 2 seat has two candidates: Luke Smith and Samantha Barker. For Ward 3, candidates Tracye Busbee and Farris Yawn have qualified. Qualifying continues on August 22 and 23 at Canton City Hall.

In Woodstock, council members David Potts of Ward 2 and Tracy Collins of Ward 4 have qualified. The Ward 6 seat currently held by Rob Usher is still vacant. Qualifying takes place at the Woodstock Annex.

Waleska is holding elections for five council seats and the mayorship. Councilman Dennis Cochran, Peter Brown, Eddie Blackwell, Logan Patrick, and Michael Greene have qualified for various council seats. Qualifying is held at City Hall in Waleska.

Candidates may still qualify thru today.
