Hightower: Cherokee Schools Will Bring Back In-House Custodial Services
Cherokee County School District has announced plans to hire its own custodians again for the next school year, ending a decade of outsourcing custodial services. Superintendent Brian Hightower stated that a recent cost analysis showed the district could afford in-house custodial services at a rate similar to proposed vendor prices.
The new custodial employees will be paid on a scale based on experience, with full-time benefits. The district also plans to recruit about 20 substitute custodians. The projected total budget for custodial services next year is $12.5 million.
Hightower emphasized a long-term commitment to this decision and assured that custodians would receive the same benefits as other classified CCSD employees.
