Investigators solve 51-year-old cold case of murdered Marietta girl
The Cobb District Attorney's Office has announced the resolution of a 51-year-old cold case involving the rape and murder of nine-year-old Debbie Lynn Randall in 1972. Investigators have determined that William B. Rose of Mableton was responsible for the crime. Rose killed himself two years after Randall's disappearance and was not initially a suspect. The case was solved through forensic investigative genealogy and DNA testing, with the help of Rose's descendants. Although justice cannot be extracted from the perpetrator, it brings closure to a long-standing mystery for Randall's family and the community.
