A tragic incident occurred on Saturday at Lake Lanier, resulting in the death of a 23-year-old man named Edgar Steven Cruz Martinez. He went for a swim in the lake but failed to resurface. The Georgia Department of Natural Resources reported that Martinez, whose residence is unknown, went under the water and did not reappear. The incident prompted a response from game wardens, Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services, and the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office just before 3 p.m. Game wardens located his body in approximately 10 feet of water, and Gwinnett Fire's rescue swimmers successfully recovered the body. The incident marks another tragic loss, among several, at Lake Lanier this year.
