STORY 2: 11th
The Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science and Technology (GSMST) has maintained its reputation as the top high school in Georgia, securing the No. 1 spot for the 11th consecutive year in the U.S. News and World Report's 2023 Best High School rankings. With a score of 99.95 out of 100, GSMST also ranked 19th nationally and 10th among STEM schools in the United States. The evaluation process considers factors like college readiness, reading and math proficiency, graduation rates, and more. The ranking aims to help parents ensure their children are in an environment conducive to their success. Columbus High, Davidson Magnet School, and DeKalb School of the Arts followed as other top-ranking schools in Georgia.
Story 3: grid
The aging U.S. electric grid requires significant new transmission capacity, but building new lines can take a decade or more due to various challenges. Grid-enhancing technologies (GETs), such as sensors, power-flow devices, and software, aim to optimize the existing grid and potentially reduce the need for new infrastructure. While GETs have been embraced globally, their adoption has been slower in the U.S. due to financial incentives for utilities to build capital-intensive projects and the need for further validation, industry standards, and security considerations. Some states and FERC have begun promoting GETs to enhance grid efficiency and reduce congestion costs.
