STORY 1: Austell Robbery

A Douglasville man, Jayvias Shermondrae Lott, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for an armed robbery at an Austell pharmacy in November 2019. Lott pleaded guilty to armed robbery, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during a felony. Cobb Superior Court Judge Sonja Brown handed down a 15-year prison sentence followed by 10 years of probation. The robbery involved Lott wearing a motorcycle helmet and demanding prescription drugs at gunpoint, with surveillance video confirming the incident. He fled with over $1,500 worth of prescription drugs. Lott was later apprehended during an unrelated investigation, where authorities found incriminating evidence, including the helmet worn during the robbery, drugs, and a firearm. Cobb Assistant District Attorney Donna Merrell expressed concern for the safety of medical professionals, emphasizing the need for security in post-COVID times. Ashleigh Merchant represented Lott at his plea hearing……..Read more about this at mdjonline.com

STORY 2: Marietta school board orders superintendent to remove 'sexually explicit material'

The Cobb County Board of Education voted 5-2 to adopt a directive ordering Superintendent Grant Rivera to remove "sexually explicit material" from the school district. The directive aims to eliminate materials considered "obscene, pornographic, not age-appropriate, and without substantive historical or academic value." Parents can challenge the removal of a book, and the process for doing so is outlined. This decision comes amid debates over books in the Cobb County School District, with some parents and board members expressing concerns about explicit content. While supporters argue that the directive protects children, opponents believe it may infringe on academic freedom and potentially harm LGBTQ+ communities.

STORY 3: Austell man arrested after hit-and-run results in serious injuries

An Austell man was arrested for his involvement in a hit-and-run accident that left two individuals seriously injured. The incident occurred when Deborah Wright's vehicle broke down, causing her to stop on Cardell Road. Anthony Sarfo allegedly crashed into the rear of Wright's car with a Lexus 460, injuring both Wright and Keith Paine, who was assisting her. Paine provided vital information about the suspect's vehicle, leading to Sarfo's arrest. Charges against Sarfo are pending as the collision remains under investigation. Anyone with additional information is urged to contact investigators...........…..(pause)

STORY 4: KSU having difficulty with run game

Kennesaw State University's football team is facing challenges in their running game this season. Traditionally known for their strong running game, they have struggled to gain yards on the ground in their first two games, averaging only 149.5 rushing yards per game compared to their historical average of 307.3 yards per game. The transition to a new offensive scheme and difficulties opening holes for runners between the tackles have contributed to this issue. The team will look to improve their running game as they face No. 7 Furman in their next game. Additionally, they are appealing a targeting penalty that led to a player's ejection.
