The Marietta City Council has unanimously approved the city's budget for the next fiscal year. The budget amounts to approximately $396 million, marking a 1% increase compared to the previous year. The general fund, used for essential services like police, fire, and public works, will see an increase of 7.95%. The council has voted to lower the total millage rate, including a reduction in the debt service bond millage, which will help homeowners pay less property tax. The millage rate has not been raised in 21 years and has been reduced over the past four years. Property taxes will fund 23.1% of the general fund budget, while revenue transfers from the Marietta Board of Lights and Water will contribute 19.9%. The budget also includes funds for 3% staff raises and the addition of one new employee in the Business License Office.
