STORY 1: gunned

A child custody exchange at a truck stop in Madison, Georgia turned deadly when Taylor Dickens, 32, was shot four times by Charles Corbitt, 28. The incident occurred during an argument between Corbitt and Dickens, who were exchanging Corbitt's daughter. Dickens managed to make his way back to a vehicle where his wife and other children were present. They drove away and called 911, but Dickens succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital. Corbitt was arrested shortly after the shooting and is now facing charges of murder and aggravated assault. A previous police report had been filed regarding an argument between the two men during a custody exchange in September 2022…..read more about this at RockdaleNewtonCitizen.com

Vierhout intends to partner with Spooky Nook Sports, a company that operates large indoor sports complexes across the United States. Story 4: sirens

Rockdale County residents can expect additional weather sirens to be installed in designated areas. The Rockdale County Board of Commissioners has approved a memorandum of understanding with the Emergency Management Agency to place weather siren equipment near the American Legion Field in Conyers. This is part of a larger plan to install a total of nine weather sirens throughout the county. The sirens will be strategically placed at sports facilities, walking areas, and trailheads to provide automatic alerts for dangerous weather conditions from the National Weather Service. Commissioner Sherri Washington expressed her satisfaction with the new installations.

Story 5: grants

Rockdale County Public Schools and Newton County School System have been awarded Opportunity Grants by the Georgia Department of Education to expand options and opportunities for students. The grants, totaling $6.1 million statewide, support advanced learning, digital media and literacy, health and physical education, world languages, and mathematics, science, and social studies instruction. The grants cover categories such as AP teacher mentoring, digital media and literacy courses, wellness initiatives, mathematics manipulatives, science consumables and equipment, social studies resources, and world language program development. The Opportunity Grants are funded through federal stimulus funds. State School Superintendent Richard Woods emphasized the commitment to providing engaging education for students and preparing them for life.

The Steffen Thomas Museum of Art (STMA) will be hosting its annual Founders Day celebration on July 1, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The event aims to honor STMA Founder Sara Douglass Thomas and raise funds for the museum's year-round operations and events.
