The Cherokee County Public Works Department has a new home after the county opened a new building dedicated to the department on Tuesday. The county purchased the building from Georgia Power in 2019 and repurposed it over two years. The new facility is larger than the department's previous location and will enable it to continue maintaining and improving the county's roads and bridges. The department also handles the placement and maintenance of road signs. The new building is named after Cliff Harden, who was the director of the public works department for 17 years, during which the department grew from 20 to over 70 employees and acquired updated vehicles and equipment. The building's opening was celebrated by county officials, who praised the department's work in improving the county's infrastructure.
