The Cherokee County Board of Commissioners has enacted a 90-day moratorium on retailers selling tobacco, electronic cigarette and “other smoking supplies,” effective Tuesday.
During the moratorium, approved unanimously by commissioners Tuesday, the county will not accept applications for any permits for these types of stores including occupation tax permits, zoning applications and business licenses.
Officials said the pause will give county staff time to work with law enforcement and other stakeholders to study whether updates are needed to the county’s codes and ordinances related to tobacco stores, according to county documents.
