STORY 1: No injuries after car crashes into Marietta Square restaraunt

A woman in Marietta drove onto the sidewalk at South Park Square, crashing her Tesla Model 3 into a restaurant, Taqueria Tsunami, in the late afternoon. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident. Marietta police reported that the woman accidentally hit the gas pedal while attempting to park. They did not anticipate filing any charges. The building owner expressed relief that no one was hurt, emphasizing that damage can be fixed, but injuries cannot. STORY 2: Biotech firm scales back design for Marietta headquarters

Marietta-based biotech firm, MiRus, is downsizing its planned headquarters on Franklin Gateway due to economic challenges like supply chain issues and construction inflation. Initially, they intended to build an 80,000-square-foot, four-story facility but now propose a two-story, 60,000-square-foot building with 28,645 sq ft of office space and 30,000 sq ft of manufacturing space. The revised plan does not mention a hotel or retail space but includes a potential future expansion of 40,000 square feet. The city council committee voted 2-0 in favor of the new plan. MiRus, specializing in medical devices, aims to break ground by June 2023.

STORY 3: Cobb commission approves strategic plan in 3-2 party-line vote

The Cobb Board of Commissioners has approved a five-year strategic plan, prepared by Accenture at a cost of $1.45 million. The plan outlines eight strategic areas for Cobb County to focus on, including community and economic development, efficient government, housing, infrastructure, mobility, public safety, and quality of life. STORY 4: Marrietta residents indicted for defrauding Mohawk Industries of nearly $2 million

Four former employees of Mohawk Industries, including an executive, have been indicted by a federal grand jury for allegedly defrauding their employer. Jana Kanyadan, Sivakumar Thiyagasamadram, Madhu Shivalingegowda, and Chintan Sandesara are accused of secretly controlling a Georgia company and using their positions at Mohawk to retain the company as a vendor for IT consulting work. They allegedly defrauded Mohawk of nearly $2 million using fake invoices. Kanyadan was Mohawk's global chief information officer, while the others were IT employees. The fraud began when Mohawk launched a large IT project in 2019, and the defendants diverted work to their company, Meta Technology Platforms, LLC.

STORY 5: Smyrna man arrested after doorbell video shows him throwing dog at ceiling

A Smyrna man, James Moses, was arrested and booked into the Cobb County jail for allegedly throwing his girlfriend's 10-pound Jack Russell terrier at a high speed into the hallway ceiling of an apartment complex. The incident, which occurred on September 18, was captured on surveillance footage. The dog appeared to be knocked out and was carried back to Moses's apartment. Moses was arrested on animal cruelty charges and held on an $8,470 bond, which he posted shortly after his arrest. Cobb Animal Services condemned the act, emphasizing that such cruelty to animals reflects a potential threat to people as well.

Georgia's annual outdoor burning ban will conclude on September 30 in 54 counties, including Cobb County. Enforced by the Georgia Environmental Protection Division from May 1 to September 30, the ban aims to preserve air quality by reducing ground-level ozone emissions. To prevent wildfires, it's crucial to adhere to safety measures when burning leaves in the fall. The "Take 5" method underscores safety precautions such as maintaining safe distances from woodlands and structures, burning during daylight, continuous supervision, and having essential tools and water sources nearby. Local ordinances may also apply, and specific burn types require separate notification procedures.

STORY 7: Smyrna man accused of stabbing man during fight

Juan Carlos Calderon, a Smyrna man, is accused of stabbing another individual during a fight on September 17 at a mobile home in Marietta.
