STORY 4 commission

In the 2023 Rome City Commission elections, the final 24 hours of qualifying brought dramatic developments. Six of the nine seats were contested, with incumbents and challengers entering the race. At a Floyd County Republican Party meeting, Ward 3 incumbent Craig McDaniel sparked discussions about cleaning up the commission. Charles Love formally declared his candidacy for Ward 1. An ethics "investigation" into incumbent Mark Cochran, also from Ward 1, added to the intensity. Cochran eventually qualified for a second term, ending speculation about his re-election. The developments set the stage for a highly anticipated and dramatic election season in Rome.

STORY 5:  exploit

An Armuchee woman, Candace Marie Camp, was arrested for allegedly stealing a 91-year-old man's garage door opener, causing him distress and fear of a potential return and robbery. She faces charges of felony exploitation of an elderly person and misdemeanor theft by taking. Camp is currently in Floyd County Jail without bond.

STORY 6: potts

In upcoming local elections, Bruce Potts, the Gordon County Commissioner, is challenging long-standing mayor Jimmy Palmer for his position. Potts made this decision after thoughtful consideration, seeking guidance from friends, mentors, and his religious beliefs. Despite having no negative views about Palmer's leadership, Potts believes he can bring fresh perspectives and ideas to the community. Potts has a history of public service, having worked as an educator and school administrator. Potts is confident that regardless of the election outcome, the community will benefit. Mayor Palmer, who has served since 1998, seeks voters' continued support. Potts' resignation has triggered an election for County Commission Post 3. Other local elections are unopposed, with Election Day set for November 7th at the Recreation Department.
