STORY 1: ROCKDALE BOC APPROVES ZINGARA ROAD MINNING PROJECT

The Rockdale County Board of Commissioners approved rezoning and a Special Use Permit for a proposed dimension stone quarry near Zingara Road. The quarry project, presented by LG 13, had faced community outrage when initially proposed in September. The approvals allow LG 13 to extract dimension granite for various purposes, including building facades, countertops, decorative pieces, and monuments. No blasting or drilling will occur on-site. However, this decision sparked anger among citizens who opposed it. Concerns raised included health issues related to silica dust, noise pollution, and water pollution. Some cited the potential harm to endangered plants and wildlife. Residents had previously protested and collected signatures against the quarry. Despite unanimous planning commission denial, the Board of Commissioners approved the project with various conditions aimed at mitigating environmental and operational impacts...........…….Stay up to date on this developing story at rockdalenewtoncitizen.com.

STORY 2: Madison's next town hall meeting slated for this Thursday in District 3

Madison is continuing its series of Town Hall meetings to gather feedback on current priorities and concerns from its residents. The third Town Hall for District 3 was rescheduled to October 12 due to an advertising error. The fourth meeting for District 1 will take place on October 16. These meetings are part of the city's comprehensive planning efforts, aiming to incorporate citizen goals into long-term planning. During previous meetings, residents have raised concerns about downtown traffic, affordable housing, attracting new businesses, park facilities, and the old Morgan Memorial Hospital site's use. They've also inquired about additional grocery store options and noise issues. The meetings aim to inform citizens about city initiatives and projects and encourage their input on the city's direction. Madison's mayor emphasized that these meetings demonstrate the city's commitment to hearing residents' voices and addressing their needs.
