The City of Madison has secured a $400,000 grant from the Community Home Investment Program (CHIP) to rehabilitate deteriorating houses in the Canaan District. This grant adds to the $1.5 million Madison has received through CHIP and Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) programs to restore homes in the area. Over the years, dozens of houses have been restored, reducing the number of dilapidated houses from 80 to just seven. The latest grant will be used to restore the remaining houses, providing repairs such as new HVAC systems, roofs, and bringing bathrooms and kitchens up to code. While this is the last CHIP grant Madison will be eligible for, the city is committed to finding other programs to restore its housing stock in the future. The collaboration between the city's GICH team, First United Methodist Church of Madison, and Grant Specialists of Georgia has been crucial in securing these funds. The CHIP grant not only benefits struggling homeowners but also helps maintain the tax base and protect surrounding home values…..we’re back with closing comments next.
