Representative Deborah Silcox, a Republican from Sandy Springs, is advocating for increased penalties for individuals who set law enforcement vehicles on fire. Silcox plans to renew her push for House Bill 500 when the legislative session resumes in January. The announcement follows a recent incident in Atlanta where vandals set fire to law enforcement motorcycles at an Atlanta Police Department facility. Silcox believes the vandalism is linked to protests against the planned Atlanta Police training facility in DeKalb County, known as "Cop City." HB 500 proposes a maximum fine of $100,000 and a prison sentence of five to 20 years for those convicted of arson of a law enforcement vehicle. The bill received support from the state House and Senate Judiciary Committee but did not reach the Senate floor for a vote in the previous legislative session. According to the American Road & Transportation Builders Association, one in three bridges in the United States requires repair or replacement. This includes 29% of interstate bridges. The estimated cost to address these repairs exceeds $54 billion. Stacker conducted an investigation on the counties in Georgia with the highest number of bridges in urgent need of repair. The data, sourced from the Federal Highway Administration as of June 15, 2022, ranks the counties based on the percentage of bridges in "poor" condition. In case of ties, the ranking considers the percentage of square meters of bridges in poor condition. The list excludes counties without bridges or those without bridges in poor condition. Marion County has the highest number of bridges in need of repair, with 17.4% of its bridges in poor condition (8 out of 46 bridges). Additionally, 15.8% of the county's bridge area, equivalent to 1,896 square meters out of 11,996 square meters, requires repair.............See this list at gwinnettdailypost.com
Former Atlanta business owner, Jose Fernandez, has been sentenced to five years and ten months in prison for obtaining fraudulent funds from the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP). Fernandez, 36, of Winter Haven, Florida, pleaded guilty to submitting PPP applications with false information for companies he or his associates controlled, obtaining over $1.6 million in fraudulent PPP funds. He used these funds for unauthorized purchases. Fernandez was also involved in other fraudulent activities, including stealing identities to file false tax returns and obtaining fraudulent credit cards. Prosecutors stated that his sentence reflects the extent of his criminal conduct, which involved multiple frauds and financial institutions...……we’ll be right back

Dr. Jake Goodman, a physician and mental health advocate with a significant social media following, shared a powerful Instagram post in December 2021. In the post, he revealed his own struggles with mental health and proudly stated that he takes medication for it. The response he received was overwhelming, with people thanking him for his openness and sharing how his post had positively impacted their lives. Dr. Goodman's aim was to combat stigma and encourage others to seek help for their mental health. Lauren Poynter has been inaugurated as the president of the Rotary Club of Covington. During the club's weekly meeting, she received the gavel from the immediate Past President Joe Davis. Poynter, a member of the Rotary Club since 2014, previously served as the club's secretary for three years. She is a co-owner of Fieldstone Center Inc. in Covington. Her new role as president will involve leading and overseeing the activities and initiatives of the Rotary Club in the community.

Justin McAllister has been promoted to assistant special agent in charge (ASAC) of the Office of Special Investigations (OSI) at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI). In his new role, McAllister will assist the special agent in charge (SAC) with overseeing special agents and other personnel within OSI. The OSI is responsible for conducting criminal investigations related to elections, public corruption, and cold cases. McAllister, who began his law enforcement career at the Newton County Sheriff's Office, has been with the GBI since 2014. His experience and dedication to the GBI mission make him well-suited for this leadership position. The GBI is divided into four divisions and employs over 900 individuals.
