Story 1. drowned
This past weekend, three people died on Lake Lanier. One of the victims was a 61-year-old man from Stone Mountain, identified as Tracey Stewart. He was on a boat with a group of people when he jumped into the lake and began to be in distress. He asked for a lifejacket, but by the time it was retrieved, he had disappeared underwater. His body was later found near East Bank Park in the Gwinnett portion of the lake. The incident was one of three deaths on Lake Lanier, including two drownings. Authorities used a side-scan sonar system and an Apple Watch's tracking data to locate Stewart's body. The Gwinnett County Medical Examiner's Office is investigating the incident...............read more on this at gwinnettdailypost.com
STORY 2: training
Gwinnett County's Police Department recently completed a $6 million, 26,000-square-foot expansion of its police training center, with plans for a new SWAT and hazardous device training facility and a new police headquarters. The expansion includes modern facilities like classrooms, locker rooms, and office spaces. The department values the community's support and sees the facility as a commitment to excellence and a tool for recruiting well-trained officers. The new space allows for more training of recruits without affecting professional development for existing officers. Gwinnett's strong training program has made its officers sought after by other agencies, but the department has taken steps to retain its officers through improved support and technology upgrades.
Story 3: tax
Gwinnett County Tax Commissioner Denise Mitchell has officially launched her campaign for the 2024 election. Although currently serving in the position, this will be her first time running for the office. Mitchell has an extensive background in the Tax Commissioner's Office, with 25 years of experience, including serving as the chief deputy tax commissioner. She emphasizes three core commitments: Exceptional Fiscal Management, Innovation-Focused, and Superior Ethical Standards Driven by Service. Mitchell is running as a Democrat and seeks to earn the support of Gwinnett voters in the upcoming elections. Her campaign website is www.Denise4Gwinnett.com .

Story 5: legends
During a routine back-to-school coaches meeting at Parkview High School, seven Panther legends, including former athletic directors and state championship-winning coaches, gave motivational speeches to current coaches and teachers. The meeting was held on the theater stage with 60 state championship trophies displayed. Topics covered included Parkview's tradition, the importance of supporting one another, the rivalry with Brookwood, and the sense of community at the school. The current coaching staff, many of whom are alumni, found the event inspiring and felt a strong desire to uphold the legacy of those who built Parkview into what it is today.
