Story 1: Teen dies after shooting in unincorporated Lawrenceville

A 19-year-old named Michael Maddox died after a shooting in unincorporated Lawrenceville, Gwinnett County. He was brought to Northside Hospital Gwinnett by three unidentified individuals with gunshot wounds. The shooting occurred on Kentshire Place. These individuals are considered witnesses, not suspects. The motive behind the shooting is still being investigated. Gwinnett County police are urging anyone with information to come forward, offering anonymity through Crime Stoppers and a cash reward for details leading to an arrest and indictment. You can contact detectives at 770-513-5300 or Crime Stoppers at 404-577-8477 or visit www.stopcrimeATL.com……..read more at gwinnettdailypost.com

STORY 2: State officials will install median on Duluth Highway near Northside Gwinnett

The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) has awarded a $5.9 million construction contract to Summit Construction and Development LLC to install a median on a portion of Duluth Highway near Northside Hospital Gwinnett in Lawrenceville. This project will affect 0.5 miles of the highway, replacing the existing two-way left turn lane with a raised median. Left turns will only be possible at specific intersections, aiming to reduce crash frequency and severity. While it's unclear when construction will start or when the project will be completed, this change will impact drivers' ability to make left turns in the affected area, necessitating U-turns or alternative routes for access to businesses. Sidewalks and curb/gutter improvements are also planned.

STORY 3: Gwinnett police looking for suspect in theft at Peachtree Corners Targe

Gwinnett County police are searching for a woman accused of stealing three Epson computer printers and children's clothing from a Target store in Peachtree Corners on August 31. The suspect allegedly placed the stolen items in a cart and left the store without paying. She is described as a slim-built Black woman wearing a white hooded jacket, white pants, and white shoes. Police have released a surveillance image and are seeking assistance in identifying her. Anyone with information is urged to contact detectives or Crime Stoppers for a possible cash reward.

Students at Georgia Gwinnett College, under Dr. Peter Sakaris' guidance, are studying local fish communities and their responses to environmental changes in the watershed. They've been conducting long-term monitoring since 2016 and have found significant declines in fish diversity due to habitat degradation. This hands-on teaching approach involves standardized fish sampling, habitat assessment, fish identification, diversity index calculations, and statistical analysis, offering students valuable field experience.

STORY 5: Georgia Gwinnett College men's tennis finishes strong in ITA South Regional

Georgia Gwinnett College's men's tennis players had a successful weekend at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association South Regional. Senior Alex Gurmendi reached the singles final but lost in straight sets, having previously won the title in 2022. He also teamed up with sophomore Santiago Villarruel to reach the doubles semifinals but lost in a tiebreaker. Regional semifinalists in singles and doubles now have a chance for at-large selections to compete in the NAIA national championships at the ITA Cup in October. Coach Hannah Keeling praised Alex's efforts in making the regional final and emphasized their focus on doubles moving forward.

Her victory automatically qualifies her for the ITA Cup, where she'll compete for the individual NAIA national championship in October. STORY 7: High School Commitments

In high school sports commitments, Peachtree Ridge senior Darius Wallace has committed to the Charlotte 49ers football program, standing at 6-foot-3 and 220 pounds. He earned recognition as an honorable mention all-county and second-team all-region player during his junior year. In soccer, Buford junior Neely Kerr is joining the Clemson University women's soccer program, boasting a strong record as a first-team all-county and all-state selection.
