STORY 1: Tim McGuire Appointed Rockdale Juvenile Court Judge
Tim McGuire has been appointed as the new Juvenile Court judge for the Rockdale Judicial Circuit, starting October 1. Announced by Chief Judge Robert F. Mumford on September 6, McGuire brings 23 years of experience as an assistant district attorney specializing in juvenile cases. A Duke University and Emory Law School graduate, McGuire succeeds Judge Maureen Wood, who moved to the Superior Court. McGuire's term will continue the progressive work of the Juvenile Court, focusing on community safety and child welfare. During Wood's tenure, the court expanded several youth-focused programs, including drug treatment and specialty courts.
STORY 2: Madison Proclaims September As Childhood Cancer Awareness Month
Madison has officially declared September as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month for the second consecutive year. The proclamation, signed on September 9 by Mayor Perriman and the City Council, aims to raise awareness and support for families affected by pediatric cancer. This initiative, driven by local grandparents Alan and Karen Murray—who lost their granddaughter Millie to cancer in 2021—seeks to honor affected children and encourage community involvement. The Murrays, who also established a nonprofit in Millie's memory, are dedicated to spreading joy and awareness. The month-long observance highlights the need for more funding, research, and support for families battling childhood cancer.

STORY 4: A ‘Kids Lives Matter’ Rally To Be Held Outside Of Rep. Mike Collins' Office This Saturday
In response to the recent mass shooting at Apalachee High School, where four were killed and nine injured, a coalition will host a "Kids Lives Matter" rally outside Congressman Mike Collins’ office in Monroe, Georgia, on Saturday, September 14, at 11 a.m. The rally aims to demand stronger gun control measures, including Red Flag laws, in light of Collins' opposition to such legislation. The event seeks to honor the victims and push for common-sense gun safety reforms. Organizers hope to influence Collins' stance on gun control, given the tragedy's impact on the local community. For more details, contact Michael Castengera or Barbara Burt.
STORY 5: One dead, one in custody following shooting
In Lakeview Estates, Conyers, a shooting on Sunday resulted in the death of a 36-year-old man. Deputies responded to the incident at a Knox Drive residence around 3:30 p.m. and found the victim deceased at the scene. A suspect has been arrested, but their identity has not been released and additional details are pending.
