STORY 1:  Victims Of Apalachee High School Shooting Identified

On Wednesday, a shooting at Apalachee High School in Winder resulted in the deaths of two 14-year-old students, Mason Schermerhorn and Christian Angulo, along with assistant coach Ricky Aspinwall and math teacher Christina Irimie. The shooter, 14-year-old Colt Gray, faces murder charges and will be tried as an adult. Nine others were injured. Law enforcement quickly responded, and Gray surrendered without further violence. The FBI had previously investigated Gray for online threats but found no probable cause for arrest. The community is in mourning, with vigils held and support offered by local and national leaders, including President Biden and Governor Kemp. Barrow County schools are closed for the week, with counseling services available.

The explosion occurred around 10 a.m. on state Route 15 near Lick Skillet Road, Greensboro. The cause of the explosion is still under investigation. Eddy, a resident of Buckhead and a part-time firefighter for Morgan County, was known for his dedication and passion for the fire service. Morgan County Fire Chief Garret Smith praised Eddy’s commitment and asked for prayers for Eddy’s family and the fire departments affected by the tragedy.
