STORY 1: 'Why the Bible Began' author Jacob Wright to speak at the Lawrenceville library next week

Emory University professor Jacob Wright's book "Why the Bible Began" has gained unexpected popularity beyond academic circles, with a New Yorker review by Adam Gopnik fueling interest. The book explores an alternative history of scripture and its origins, challenging conventional perspectives. Wright contends that the Bible, written by a small group of scribes, serves as a social and political tome that shapes the world's destiny. Despite the complexity of its stories and enduring relevance, the Bible is not a book of pat answers but one full of questions. Wright discusses his work at a Gwinnett Public Library author talk at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, November 15th. Get more stories like this at gwinnettdailypost.com

STORY 2: Key Roads in Gwinnett County being considered for 'Smart Corridors' transformation

Georgia Department of Transportation Commissioner Russell McMurry highlighted projects in Gwinnett County aimed at transforming key roads into "smart corridors." These corridors will employ technology to transmit information, such as traffic signal status and roadwork updates, to vehicles on the road. The projects involve running fiber optic connectivity to traffic signals and control devices along Buford Highway, Arcado Road, and State Route 120. The smart corridor initiative, a collaboration between the state and Gwinnett County, aims to enhance connectivity and prepare for future transportation technology, where cars will communicate with traffic signals for improved safety and efficiency.

STORY 3: Nearly a dozen people treated for possible drug overdose at Stone Mountain tavern

Nearly a dozen individuals at Will Henry's Tavern in south Gwinnett experienced possible cocaine overdoses, requiring treatment on Thursday night. Gwinnett County police responded to a medical call, finding nine people being treated by fire officials. While the substance hasn't been lab-confirmed, witnesses claimed it was cocaine. Investigations are ongoing to identify the source of the substance. Three individuals were taken to the hospital, while the others declined transportation.

Snellville's Tiencia James, an emergency room physician and triathlete, combines her medical and coaching roles. Racing in her second IRONMAN triathlon world championship in Kona, Hawaii, James also coached another athlete. Inspired by personal loss, she began coaching over a year ago, emphasizing balance and avoiding overtraining. James, a former Stanford University cross-country runner, has completed over 20 IRONMAN races, balancing her athletic pursuits with a demanding career and family life. Coaching around ten athletes, James helps them build endurance, strategize training, and find balance in their lives.

STORY 5: New tracked chairs aid accessibility outdoors at Florida state parks

Blue Spring State Park in Florida has introduced a tracked chair program to enhance accessibility for people with mobility impairments. Visitors can now reserve motorized wheelchairs with all-terrain rubber tracks for exploring the park's rugged trails. The blue EcoRover chairs, made available by Friends of Seminole State Forest, can be reserved free of charge through an online system. The program aims to make the park's natural beauty more accessible to individuals with disabilities and out-of-state visitors. Another tracked chair is available at DeLeon Springs State Park, with the program offering enhanced experiences for an estimated one million visitors annually.
