Story 1 workforce
Construction is underway for Franklin Crossing, a 57-unit apartment complex on Eagle Drive near Bells Ferry Road in Cherokee County. Developed by Paladin, Inc. and Georgia Communities, this project aims to provide workforce housing for local residents struggling with rising housing costs. It will offer one-, two-, and three-bedroom units with rent restrictions, such as a $55,000 income limit for typical two-bedroom units with rents around $1,000 per month. The complex will feature amenities like a fitness center, computer center, gazebo, and on-site property management. Franklin Crossing received housing tax credits from Georgia’s Department of Community Affairs and is set to be completed in the first quarter of 2025. This development aligns with the county's plans for a mixed-use, walkable environment in the Bells Ferry Overlay District.

STORY 2: arrested
In a statewide operation called "Operation Sneaky Peach," the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) arrested 26 individuals over an 11-day period for child sexual exploitation, including two residents from Canton, Georgia. The operation targeted individuals using peer-to-peer networks to share child sexual abuse material. Undercover agents engaged with those arranging to meet with whom they believed were children for sexual acts. This operation resulted in 34 residential search warrants, 26 arrests, the seizure of 281 electronic devices, and the identification of 30 children living in homes involved in online child sexual exploitation. Among those arrested were Ethan Cook, 18, and Thaddeus Anderson, 34, both from Cherokee County, Georgia. They were charged with sexual exploitation of children and related offenses.
Story 3: cold
The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office is seeking the public's help in solving a decades-old cold case involving a sexual assault from 1986. They issued a statement on Facebook requesting any doctors or nurses who worked at R.T. Jones Hospital's emergency room during that year to come forward with information. The department can be reached at (770) 928-0239, and individuals with relevant details are encouraged to ask for Sgt. Robert Haugh. Further details about the case were not provided, but investigators are actively working on resolving this "cold case" sexual assault that took place in the late 1980s.

Story 5: intersection
Flau'jae Johnson, a Sprayberrry alum and notable rapper and National Champion basketball player, received a special honor as an intersection in her hometown of Savannah was dedicated in her name. The intersection of Abercorn and West Montgomery Cross Road is now officially known as the Flau'jae Johnson intersection. This recognition is a historic occasion as she becomes the youngest Georgian to receive such a street designation. State Representative Carl Gilliard introduced the resolution in the Georgia General Assembly for this honor, which passed unanimously in both the state House and Senate. Flau'jae and her family expressed their pride and gratitude for this enduring recognition in her hometown.
